INTO News: Surprise proposal at INTO Exeter!

Janice and Moody 1

Now that’s what we call romance!

Something lovely happened at our INTO Exeter centre this month…an INTO graduate made a very romantic proposal!

Moody (Mu Di), from China, decided to propose to Janice (Liu Chen) at their first meeting place – the INTO Café. So he asked our INTO Exeter team for help. Of course, they were only too happy to assist (well, we’re pushovers for romance at INTO).

A couple since 2011, Moody and Janice met at INTO Exeter then progressed to the University of Exeter. 19 days after first meeting, Moody asked Janice out and they’ve been together ever since.

INTO’s Eleanor Wheaton was very touched that Moody even remembered the exact table where he and Janice first met. According to Moody: ‘I knew when I first saw her and spoke to her that she would be my wife one day’.

The happy couple after the proposal.

In planning the surprise proposal, Moody booked a photographer and videographer, and with the help of some friends, scattered rose petals on the floor of the INTO Café and decorated in with heart shaped balloons. A traditional green tea sponge cake, chocolates and sushi were also laid out.

Moody then persuaded Janice to visit the cafe with him: ‘I told her that I’d arranged a photo shoot on campus and that we needed to get dressed up in formal clothes!’ he explained.

Music played as the couple walked hand-in-hand into the café together. The INTO team, plus the couple’s friends, felt more than a little emotional when Moody got down on one knee and gave Janice a diamond ring. Eleanor said: ‘I couldn’t be happier that it all worked out so well for them both. It goes to show that students can be really affected by their time in INTO. You can’t beat a good love story!’

Janice, meanwhile, didn’t suspect a thing: ‘I had no idea Moody had planned this. I thought he might propose somewhere on campus one day, but I didn’t think that he would remember the INTO Building! I’m very happy that it happened here, I’ve truly loved my time in Exeter.’ Moody added that he was ‘very, very happy.’

The couple plan to marry in China later this year. We wish them all the best!
